Meet the Farmers Behind Our Special Tea Collaboration 🌱
Behind every cup of tea is a story, and at the Toronto Tea Festival 2025, we introduced our special Japanese tea collaboration with three farmers from Shizuoka prefecture, Japan. Each of these farmers brings a unique story, dedication, and craftsmanship. This collaboration was made possible through the Shizuoka ChaOI project in 2024, where these farmers and Hokusan Tea Canada joined forces as a team to bring the best of Japanese tea to Canada.
🌱 Yasuhiko Saito - Ikumi Village, Shimada
Mr. Saito’s journey to tea farming began with his studies in thermodynamics - a scientific discipline focused on heat and energy transfer. By combining this approach with the unique fermentation and pan-frying techniques he learned during his travels to Taiwan and China, he developed a unique approach that brings out the rich fragrance and flavor of his teas. His expertise shines in our Sakura Tea, with its delicate floral aroma, and Wakocha, a Japanese black tea with a mild, sweet flavor.

🌱 Yoshio Moriuchi - Moriuchi Tea Farm, Honyama
For over 450 years, the Moriuchi family has been cultivating some of Japan’s finest teas in Honyama, Shizuoka. His expertise in hand-rolled tea and eco-friendly farming has earned him prestigious awards, including 10 consecutive wins at The National Tea Competition and Best Japanese Green Tea Award at North American Tea Conference. His exceptional teas are even used by luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and the British Royal Family. His craftsmanship shines through in our Premium Matcha, which offers a smooth, milky, and fruity aroma.
Rikko, the founder of Hokusan, began her tea journey with 6 months of training at his farm. Learn more about Rikko’s Tea journey!
🌱 Takeshi Suzuki - Yazo-En, Hamamatsu
Mr. Suzuki’s commitment to organic farming and environmental sustainability sets him apart. His farm operates without pesticides, using only JAS-certified organic fertilizers to maintain a healthy and sustainable ecosystem. His dedication to quality and the environment is reflected in our Organic Ceremonial Matcha, which offers a perfect balance of sweetness and umami with minimal bitterness. His organic teas have been recognized internationally with awards such as the China-Japan Agricultural Award and a Gold Medal at the International Fine Tea Competition.
※JAS are the Japanese national standards established by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in the fields of food, agriculture, forestry and fisheries.
